The little travelbuddy you need this summer… Bug/Mosquito/Insect Repel Spray

Hey you!

Today’s officially the first day of summer and we all know what that means — sun, beaches, euphoria and of course: MOSQUITOES. ugh.

I know, I know, not everyone’s that bothered by them. As a matter of fact, many of my friends barely ever get stung by one while I seem to be their favourite donor. And of course, I am allergic to them and I swell up like a balloon which looks very appealing in cute summer dresses.

If you’re like me and you just want to enjoy your summer without worrying about looking like you have some severe skin disease, then fear not because I got the solution that just might save your summer!

This, my friends, is my tried and true DIY Anti-Mosquito spray. I brought it with me everywhere I went and I barely ever got stung! This is an all natural ‘recipe’ and it even helps calm your skin when you do get a mosquito bite.

So here’s what you need:

  • A 100ml/3.4oz empty bottle (or something smaller, but 100ml is the official limit of cabin bag allowance)
  • Witch Hazel (you can get the one I use on Amazon: here)
  • Various essential oils (I recommend: Lemongrass, Citronella, Tea Tree, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Orange and Lavender) (I would recommend getting a small kit like this one, just because it’s cheaper than buying single ones, as you do get smaller bottles but you don’t need that much)
  • OPTIONAL: if you want to be extra fancy like me, add some gold infused (or not) body oil to help hydrate your skin as essential oils can sometimes be a little drying. I used the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Or because it’s my favourite oil! (You can read more about it here on my blog!)

Let’s get to mixing then! It’s fairly easy so:

  1. Take your bottle and fill it about 3/4 with Witch Hazel.
  2. Add some water to dilute it, but not too much.
  3. Add 60-80 drops of essential oils, make your own mix! What you add depends on how you want your spray to smell. However, make sure the base smell is essentially Tea Tree and Citrus-ey as those are the ones I found mosquitoes to be most disgusted by.
  4. Optional: add body oil.
  5. Shake well before every use! Spray lightly all over your body (even safe to use as a facial spray). Repeat every 3(-ish) hours to maintain optimal protection.
  6. Enjoy your summer!

And that’s it. Thank you for reading and have a great summer!

Anatomicals – the company that only wants you for your body!

Hey loves,

Today we’re talking skincare!

As winter approaches I like to change up my skincare a little as my skin usually gets a little drier then. And a big part of skincare, besides of moisturiser, is the right mask and the right wash.

I’m happy to tell you that I’ve partnered up with Anatomicals and they kindly sent me some products to review.

Now, if you’ve been here with me for a while you know that I’m not influenced by partnerships and I will always give you my honest opinion on products.

Starting off with some stuff about the brand:

Anatomicals is a funky one which you can tell by only taking a look at the names of the products. They don’t take themselves too seriously but they do take your skin seriously!
It’s a cruelty-free and paraben free brand and they want to ban boring beauty regimes with their funny, colourful packaging.
They are also a Britain based brand!
You can buy their products at Anatomicals, Asos, Urban Outfitters, Amazon and Superdrug for example.
You’ll also be pleased to know that they are very affordable with prices ranging from only 1,50 to 9 bucks!

My experience:

  • anatomicals – the buff stuff: citrus body scrub
This has become my main shower buddy! The scent is very fresh but not too overpowering. It’s a pink shower gel with some beads that help you exfoliate your skin and make it soft and smooth!
Personally, I have a lot of bumps on my arms and over my knees. I don’t really know what they are as they’re not any kind of acne or so but this stuff has helped me reducing it a lot!
The scrub is also quite soft so it doesn’t damage your skin.
p.s. exfoliating body scrubs also help prevent and eliminate ingrown hairs!
Price point: £4
  • anatomicals – face masks
I got 3 face masks and as they are in this sort of ‘sample packaging’ I would advise you to get a little container with a lid where you can put the mask in because there are at least 2 applications in one bag.
What the masks are supposed to do is not a big secret as it’s printed in bold letters all over the packaging.
My favourite one is probably the Look, you’ve got chocolate all over your face – anti-stress face mask just because it kind of reminds me of my childhood where I did put chocolate all over my face once because I read somewhere that it’d be beneficial for my skin. (Piece of advice: don’t do that)
This mask also smells like chocolate cake batter so that’s a plus! The smell of chocolate will help you reduce stress (even though you should not eat the mask, just enjoy the scent!) and the mask itself is very hydrating and soothing to your skin.
The The hottie tottie is never spotty – anti-blemish face mask is the perfect mask to use if you sense a breakout (for me mostly at ‘that time of the month’) as it’s fighting breakouts and clogged pores by containing kaolin clay and tea tree oil. Sage oil and evening primrose oil calms, soothes and balances your skin so it’s perfect if you have oily skin.
The I feel the need, the need for seaweed – calming algae face mask is basically a blend of mud, algae and some mineral extracts which help you detoxify and soothe your skin. So this is perfect when your skin is acting up a bit and doesn’t really feel like it always does!
Price point: £1.50
Overall, I’m really pleased with these products and I sure will purchase some more. The fact that they are very affordable, cruelty-free and are working proves that you don’t always have to spend a lot of money to get great results. And to be honest, their packaging won my heart with the funky names and the fun colours!

So all that is left to say: Happy masking and happy showering!

Aaaand I’m done! If you happen to have any other questions about this product, don’t hesitate to contact me, I always love to help where I can!

YSL All Hours Foundation: PASS or YASS? (Review)

Hey babes,

We’ll be talking some more about high-end foundations today, because I know that it can be difficult to decide whether or not you should spend a lot of coins on that or not.
I would advise you to do a lot of research before buying high-end makeup especially when you’re on a budget, so in this post I want to share my experience with the Yves Saint Laurent All Hours Liquid Foundation, to make your decision just a little bit easier.

Starting off with facts and claims about the foundation:

  • Price: 51,50€/ 58$ / £33,50 (based on Sephora & yslbeauty)
  • 22 shades (from ‘Porcelain’ to ‘Ebony’)
  • 0.84 fl.oz / 25ml (usually foundations are 1fl.oz, so you’ll get less)
  • SPF 20
Official claims:
  • matte finish for a flawless complexion, reduced appearance of pores, fresh & smooth skin
  • lasts 24hours, no touch up needed
  • full coverage, no mask-like effect
  • waterproof, transfer-resistant, oil-free
  • enriched with a skincare complex & UV filter
  • suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin

About my skin:

I used to have an overall very oily skin but it has changed over time.
I do feel like I got quite ‘normal’ skin now, which gets a little bit oily on the t-zone during the day but not too much and I don’t have any dry patches.
I don’t have too many imperfections to cover up, except for some blackheads on the nose and a bit of discolouration/dark spots.

Application:

I got shade BD40, which is called Warm Sand.

I mostly apply one layer with a round top brush and then build up a few areas with a beautyblender.

The primer I use is the Benefit Porefessional.

Review:

  • Starting point:
before makeup application

  • End of the day:

Conclusion:

This foundation has become my go-to as I wear it basically every single day. For this review, the pictures taken were 9 hours apart and as you can see it held up perfectly. As I think, this is one of the few foundations that will look better as the day passes. However, I think if you have really oily skin you will have to blot throughout the day as it’s not super oil controlling. It’s a perfect foundation for mixed/normal skin as it’s neither drying nor turning you into a oil ball.

The thing I love most about it is that it really does not transfer, meaning you can change into a white shirt and don’t worry, or you could take a nap without any worries.

The coverage is adjustable. If you apply one layer with a round top brush, you will get a good medium to full coverage. With a beautyblender it’s kind of a low medium coverage. It’s easy to build up with brush and a beautyblender, so it doesn’t really matter what you prefer.

You don’t need a lot of product, as one to one and a half pump is enough for a whole face.It is a pricey foundation, for sure, but I think if you have the coin to buy it, you definitely should. It’s a genius foundation and personally, I think it does live up to its claims and the hype!

And there you go. If you happen to have any other questions about this product, don’t hesitate to contact me, I always love to help where I can!
